I have been teaching for over twenty-five years, but I am definitely a learner first. I am an experienced teen yoga/movement and mindfulness teacher, which informs my wellness-based approach to learning. During my time as a public school teacher in Toronto, I have worked as the leader of an alternative program, providing remote and blended learning for students whose needs are not being met in traditional classrooms.

I have direct experience with what works in school, what doesn’t and where the gaps are. In these learning gaps, all students can build confidence and develop essential skills, capabilities and strategies which aren’t only the basis of learning, they are the best demonstration of it.

In addition to academics, I have more than 600 hours of yoga asana, mindfulness and meditation training.

Outside of class, I am constantly learning. I am currently studying fermentation, survival skills, movement modalities (think handstands and parkour in the park), and dog training.

I am an engaging and empathetic teacher. I am passionate about supporting students to prepare and make the most out of their post-secondary education. Students learn academic and life skills since they are both essential for reaching your goals.

I empower students to ask their questions (there are no 'dumb' questions or 'wrong' answers). As students develop their critical thinking, reading and writing skills necessary to succeed in university, we will also work on how to deal with issues like stress management and the fear of 'failure' (which is nothing to be ashamed of and a rich source of learning).

My goal is to inspire, motivate and challenge students to become critical thinkers who can confidently express their ideas in class and in life. What most excites me about the learning process is supporting students to ask their questions help them to find their own unique answers (and inevitably more questions!).

I have a Phd in international relations and women and politics. Over the past two decades, I have received multiple teaching awards including the Certificate of Recognition for exemplary support of Student Accessibility Services (2021-22) and the York University President’s University-Wide Teaching Award (2016).

When I am not teaching, my favourite things include taking long walks, leading chair yoga classes in women’s shelters, trying out new vegan recipes and playing with my dogs Chloe and Henry.
